Join Brooklyn Lace Guild on Sunday, November 16 from 6 to 9pm at the Textile Arts Center in Brooklyn for our annual (secular) St. Catherine's Day celebration!
St. Catherine of Alexandria was a 3rd century Roman martyr who was tortured on a wheel, and has become the patron saint of wheel makers, spinners, and lacemakers. As a rare holiday for lacemakers who worked for long hours at their pillows, St. Catherine's Day is traditionally celebrated by baking spiced cattern cakes, jumping over a candlestick, and lighting a pyrotechnic wheel of fireworks. Since 2017, Brooklyn Lace Guild has held an annual celebration to hang out, drink mead, make lace, and listen to festive lacemakers' songs and tells together.
Open the Public. RSVP at Textile Art Center Here. Members please check your email for discount information.
